As a legal recruiter, I review hundreds of resumes every year. Disappointingly less than 1 in 10 resumes are good enough to pass on ‘as is’ to a prospective employer. Most need major surgery! Here are 3 starter tips to improve your resume:

3 Resume Starter Tips

  1. Your CV should not be too long. Two pages are fine – short and sweet is best!
  2. Bullets should be a line (or max. two lines) each. A resume is a summary and a teaser, so make it easy reading and avoid unnecessary articles (a’s and the’s). No punctuation at the end of each bullet please, and no one will sue you if every bullet doesn’t begin with a verb!
  3. Pare down your lists of summer jobs, school volunteer activities, publications, etc. so they don’t obscure and distract from your relevant work experience!
